The deep imprint of the ocean, of my Brittany.

Brittany, the ocean, the bay of Douarnenez, fishing, my grandfather — the memories of my childhood. Brittany defines me; my history keeps reminding me. Since I was born I spent every holiday there, oysters and crustaceans and fish were my daily life, Muscadet and Gros Plant to go with my grandfather's catch. I never thought I'd tell our story through a wine, but here we are. Philia was born in the vineyard one winter, pruning the old Folle Blanche vines in a beating December rain — under my oilskin I remembered: you used to open the oysters in the garage sink and as a small child at waist height I took that wave of iodine straight in the face. Philia is that: you gave me so much, taught me so much. I hold on to your patience, and to your words. Philia is you — that deep imprint of the ocean that wrapped around you, your face weathered by the elements, like those gnarled old vines.
PHILIA — Philia (φιλία) — friendship, deep affection
The most maritime of my wines, Philia is fresh as an early morning dive. Sea water, seaweed, wet rock, salty mist that follows you up the path along the cove. That saline linearity gives way to rounder notes — summer apples, lemons at their peak, white flowers. The decisively iodic finish carries you out on a wave of oceanic freshness. A testament to the magic of old vines.
